Francoise Montague took over the De Saurma jewelry workshop in the late 1940s. Her mother founded the workshop in 1945, according to « Costume Jewelry for Haute Couture » by Florence Muller. The established business included a global clientele and boutique in Paris. After Montague took over, her most important clients were Nina Ricci and Franck & Fils. Early jewelry by Montague, according to Muller, “is recognizable in the abundant use of enamel and iridescent glass beads. » However, these pieces are unmarked and are often difficult to identify correctly. Montague continued to work the business through the 1950s and ’60s, earning accolades, including the Grand Prix des Creations de Bijouterie Fantaisie in 1961 and maintaining a loyal clientele. Marion Stern took over the business in 1978 and still oversees the Francoise Montague workshop in Paris. The company pared down its staff considerably during the 1990s. It rebounded in the 2000s by adding many new designs to its couture jewelry portfolio and building on old standards .
